Bussi Island lies in Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa, and has an area of approximately 117 km². The island is located just a few kilometers southwest of Entebbe, currently Uganda's largest city and home to an international airport.

In the west and north are the Mabamba wetlands (an official Ramsar wetland since 2006) and an Important Bird Area (IBA) designated by BirdLife International.

Currently, you have to take a ferry and a water taxi; a direct ferry from Entebbe is planned. From the ferry landing to the boarding school's railings, it takes about two minutes by boda-boda (shared taxi).
